Honda&39;s CRF1000L Africa Twin caused a huge buzz upon its release in Europe in 2015, underscored by a similarly strong release in Japan the next February. The Japanese manufacturer used their considerable experience in grueling off-road races to create an adventure-touring bike equally at home on tarmac or in the wild.
Honda’s Dakar Rally Adventures The development of the Africa Twin is connected with the Dakar Rally, the grueling endurance rally event that was first held in 1979 as the Paris-Dakar Rally and was run from Paris, France to Dakar, the capital of west African nation Senegal, covering a distance of twelve thousand kilometers in just twenty days and taking the competitors through hostile environments such as the Sahara Desert. At the time of writing, the race still lives on, although from 2009 it has found a new home in South America. Honda first entered the race in 1981, and in 1982 a version of the XRSOOR production bike tuned by Honda R&D and the Racing Service Center (RSC) was piloted to an impressive 1-2 finish by riders Cyril Neveu and Philippe Vassard. With the competition getting ever faster, Honda entered a works team from 1986, equipping it with the 779cc V2 liquid-cooled engine NXR75O, designed specifically for the race and piloted to four consecutive victories - by Neveu in 1986 and 1987, Edi Orioli in 1988 and Gilles Lalay in 1989. After a period away from the race, Honda returned in 2013 running a works CRF45O Rally. This assembly kit captures the bikes most minute detail in every way. It is sure to wow the most discerning model enthusiast at this very large scale!
