Debuting at the opening round of the 1988 Formula One Season, the McLaren Honda MP4/4 dominated throughout for an incredible 15 wins. Although handicapped by 150L fuel restrictions and reduced boot pressure, the RA 168 V6 twin turbo engine demonstrated excellent fuel efficiency and higher power output than the 3.5L naturally-aspirated engines. Chief engineer Steve Nicols designed a compact, streamlined chassis capable of taking full advantage of the powerful Honda engine. The dream combination of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna took the MP4/4 to an overwhelming victory in the final year of turbo F1 racing.
