The Basis for a Champion
In 1963, famous Italian automobile manufacturer Alfa Romeo released the Giulia Sprint GT, a stylish coupe with a 1600cc DOHC 4-cylinder engine. This car was further refined for motorsport use, and the result was the Giulia Sprint GTA. The GTA featured such performance modifications as lightweight aluminum body panels and a twin plug ignition system which increased power to 116hp. Alfa Romeo&39;s motorsport division, Autodelta, went even further and produced a full race-spec version of the GTA, which went on to win the European Touring Car Championship from 1966-1969.
