German 88mm Gun FLAK37 &8220;Siege Of Tobruk&8221;
Just Another Day on the Gun Line
On May 26, 1942, Field Marshal Rommel&39;s Africa Corps launched an attack against the British defensive line west of Tobruk which stretched from Gazala to Bir Hacheim. As they advanced, they encountered a British unit equipped with the latest M3 Grant tanks which threatened to halt the offensive. The Africa Corps was saved when the 88mm guns of the Luftwaffe&39;s anti-aircraft units swung into action. Their accurate long-range fire forced the British tanks to retreat, allowing the Africa Corps to continue their advance and eventually capture Tobruk on June 21st.
