Protecting the Humanitarian Assistance Mission
In 1997, the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) began development of a new high-mobility light armored transportation vehicle with the versatility to face new missions in a changing world. First deployed in 2002, the JGSDF Light Armored Vehicle has a capacity of 4, is capable of top speeds of 100km/h, and is light enough to be carried by helicopter or transport aircraft. The gun mount on the roof can be fitted with a 5.56mm MINIMI machine gun or Light Anti-Tank Guided Missile. Tamiya&39;s model depicts a vehicle deployed to Iraq as part of Japan&39;s Humanitarian Assistance Mission.
