The Brabham team (Motor Racing Developments Ltd) was founded by the world famous racing driver, Jack Brabham, who in 1966 became the first man to win a Grand Prix in a car bearing his own name. Jack Brabham won the World Championship Series in 1966 and Dinny Hulme won the team&39;s second title in 1967. in 1971 the team was taken over by the current owner, Mr.Bernard Ecclestone, who hired the talented South African disigner, Gordon Murray. AThe Brabham BT42, Won three Grand Prix in the hands of Carlos Reutemann. In 1975 the team, sponsored by Martini, won tow more Grand Prix races. Ecclestone took the brave step of abandoning the extremely successful Ford Coswroth Engine at hte end of 1975 in favour of hte 12 cylinder Alfa Romeo Engine which develped gradually as a potential race winning power unit. John Watson and Carlos Pace were signed as drivers for 1977, and just as the develpment work on the engine was beginning to produce tesults, Carlos Pace was tragically Killed in an aircrash. Watson, who helped to carry the team through thata sad period, emerged as one of the most competitive drivers in 1977. In 1978 the team attracted sponsorship from Parmalat, the Italian dairy products concern, and with the new BT46 in the hand of John Watson and twice World Champion NIki Lauda, the Brabham team again competed with hte world&39;s leading F-1 teams for the coveted World Championship title.
