For over 50 years Le Mans 24 hour race has been reowned as the most demanding test of man and machine for Sports Prototype Racing Cars. Following their phenomenal success with XJS Racing Coupe, Tom Walkinshaw Racing turned to Group C Sports Ptoto Types at the end of 1985. 1986 saw the emotional return of the works Jaguars to the Le Mans circuit, and again in 1987 the V12 Jaguar engine was heard growling down the legendary Muisabbe stright at over 230 mph. The TWR Jaguar finished a creditable 5th overall, adding more points to a total which has since brought both the World Drivers' Championship and the Team Championship to TWR Jaguar.
