The Nippon Maru started to be built in 1929 at Kawasaki shipyard in Kobe and was completed in 1930.

She participated in the sail fleet parede on the Hudson River conducted in July, 1976 as a 200th anniversary of the foundation of U.S.A.

She entered the port with such a graceful manner that represented Japan as a maritime state.

She has two dissel engines of 600 horsepower as supplement engines.
